Events
The Hospital Foundation has many fundraising activities and events throughout the year. Listed below are some of the major annual events that the Foundation runs.
Wayne Leonard’s Motorcycle Muster
Every year since 2002, the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation has joined forces with Wayne Leonard Motorcycles to run an annual charity Motorcycle Muster. Since inception this event has raised $368,414. The funds raised have gone to contributing to the purchase of a Paediatric Transport Cot, redecorating the interview room in the Special Care Baby Unit, the purchase of Carewave Mattresses and a Vacuum Assisted Closure Machine, and to assist with the Paediatric Playground and the redevelopment of the Emergency Department at the Cairns Base Hospital.

Yellow Pages™ Cardiac Challenge Cairns to Cooktown
Following cardiac surgery in 2003 for a congenital hole in the heart and being a self professed cycling “nut”, Peter McNally had an ambition for a fund raising bike ride in aid of cardiac care services in the Cairns region as well as raising awareness of bike riding for fitness, health and fun. The idea for the Cairns to Cooktown ride grew while on the return trip from another similar and popular North Queensland ride, the Coast to Coast - Cairns to Karumba bike ride.
The first Yellow Pages™ Cardiac Challenge was in 2007 followed by very successful rides in 2008 and 2009. The combined total from the three events is $424,393. The funds raised have been used to purchase a Vivid Echo S6 Ultrasound machine, an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump CS300 Datascope and a Vivid 7 Dimension 4d Echocardiography System for the Cardiac Unit at the Cairns Base Hospital.
